FEDERICA VALABREGA

I moved to New York in March 2010. I was 25 years old. I had just quit my writing career in D.C. to learn how to take photos living alongside a photojournalist in New Orleans. It was just fitting that my next move would be to drive-up to the City with my whole life packed in a U-Haul (very Jack Kerouac of me!)

I had no contacts nor friends there, but a glimpse to a blurry future made of shoes too big to fill and unachievable dreams, but your twenties are for ripping the bandage and just going for it. And that’s what I did. No looking back!

A year later, I ran my first marathon, published my first image in the New York Times magazine and I had a photobook on the way. It all seemed unfathomable. Then, 10 years later, the dream was changed by Covid_19 and along came my retrieve to Italy just to get my Green Card three years later.

So the whirlwind of magic got me to back here. This project was born from the necessity of finding a new face to my New York of before in the now.
